BellSouth, 8×8 sign VoIP deal

BellSouth and 8×8 Inc. have reached an agreement to provide Voice over Internet Protocol services under the BellSouth brand name.

8×8 will provide the infrastructure, operations support and customer premise equipment for the VoIP product, to be labeled BellSouth Digital Phone Service.

“With the introduction of BellSouth Digital Phone Service, we are broadening our portfolio of consumer services,” said Martin Chandler, vice president of product management for BellSouth. “This new service is another example of our commitment to providing customers with the greatest choice when it comes to their communications and entertainment services.”

“BellSouth’s selection of 8×8 as its VoIP partner is a tremendous credit to the technology and service expertise which has made 8×8 one of the industry’s leading VoIP service providers,” said 8×8 chairman and CEO Bryan Martin.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

BellSouth has begun testing the BellSouth Digital Phone Service in Gainesville, Fla., and will market unlimited calling to the U.S. and Canada for $29.99 per month, according to Light Reading.
