FCC, T-Mobile sign Do Not Call consent decree

The Federal Communications Commission and T-Mobile USA have signed a consent decree regarding the company’s use of outside contractors for telemarketing, to improve its compliance with the national Do Not Call list.

The list contains the phone numbers of consumers who do not wish to receive telemarketing calls, and telemarketing companies are required to cross-check numbers with the list before making calls.

Under the consent decree, T-Mobile admits no wrongdoing, but will make a “voluntary” $100,000 contribution to the U.S. Treasury.

The consent decree spells out a program T-Mobile will follow to ensure that telemarketing companies it contracts with do not contact consumers who don’t wish to receive telemarketing calls.
