Phone companies spend millions on lobbying
A report from the Center for Public Integrity reveals that telecommunciations companies spent $56.8 million on political contributions over six years and at least $77.8 million on lobbying over two years.
Surprisingly, the biggest spender was SBC Communications, Inc., which spent at least $16.3 million to lobby state governments, and $10.1 million on contributions to state political parties and candidates’ campaigns from 1999 to 2004.
