Qwest employees ratify new contract

Qwest employees on Friday ratified a new contract by a 66 percent vote, according to the Communications Workers of America.

The three-year agreement provides a 7.5% wage increase for employees, keeps the 8-hour limit on mandatory overtime, and makes some changes to the out-of-pocket cost structure for the employer-paid health insurance.

CWA District 7 Vice President Annie Hill said the settlement acknowledges the value that CWA members add to Qwest’s operations, and that workers and management are committed to moving forward to rebuild Qwest and maintain long-term employment and stability for workers.

The union represents 25,000 Qwest workers in 13 states: Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
